2004 | Joe Schiavi a Woodward instructor has started his own frame company made in the USA. Joe Schiavi, www.endemicbmx.com, august 2004: I started the Endemic Bike Company to offer an "all purpose" bmx frame. I have always ridden street, dirt, flat, and park, and never found a frame that was perfect for everything. I designed a prototype frame that had a 19.5" top tube, and a very simple design that would work for all types of bmx. I had broken several other bmx frames over the past couple of years, which helped motivate me start Endemic Bikes. I rode the endemic prototype, and beat the hell out of it right after putting it together to see how it could hold up. I did everything from throwing it off of ramps, to throwing it clean over my car longways, to riding full speed into and up stairs. I was completely satisfied with it's performance. I tested the prototype for quite some time, and while I was testing it I recieved a lot of requests to make the frame available in different sizes for ramp, street, and dirt riders. I decided to make half of the first batch of frames with a 19.5" top tube, and the other half with a 20.5" top tube size. I have plans to make 19", 20", and 21" top tube sizes as soon as (financially) possible. I started the company as a "frame" company, but I do have plans to make a few parts in the near future. I have a design for some handlebars that I want to test for a while, and if everything works out, put into production. |
